John Kacere 1920–1999
John Kacere started his painting practice as an Abstract Expressionist but in the late 1960s, he switched his focus to almost exclusively depicting close-up, lingerie-clad butts, becoming an early proponent of Photorealism.
Kacere was born in Walker, Indiana in 1920 and received his BFA and MFA from the University of Iowa. His work is represented in the collections of the Stedeljik Museum, Amsterdam, the Erie Art Museum, Pennsylvania and the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, Connecticut, among others. He died in 1999 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the age of 79.
