Japanese immigrant Kiichi Yamada (1872-1902) was a decorator at Grueby and worked there for a brief time before his death from heart disease at the age of thirty. His initials can be found on the reverse of one of the present tiles.
Frieze is comprised of six tiles depicting a procession of horses. Glazed decorator's initials to reverse of one example ‘KY’. Decal gallery label to underside of two examples ‘David Rago Gallery American Art Tile 1880-1950’.
