In nature there are many miracles, and color change fancy sapphire is one of them. For millennia, sapphires have been sought after for their color. Usually the color blue comes to mind when thinking of this gem, but in reality it comes in almost every color, except red which is the variety ruby.
Within the corundum family, is a unique and rare type of fancy sapphire that exhibits a color change when exposed to different types of light. Most typically the color change is blue to violet in daylight to reddish purple in incandescent light. In some rare cases, they can show a shift from green to reddish brown. The intensity of the color shift is expressed as weak, moderate, and strong and is the single most important factor when determining value. As with other types of sapphire they can be found in many places throughout the world, the best examples coming from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Madagascar.
