In his famous trompe l'oeil stye, artist Victor Spinski shows his sense of humor and interest in blue collar America. Complete with a brown bag, paint cans, brushes and a Pepsi cup, this singular work is all made of ceramic and meticulously finished with underglaze and ceramic decal.

Victor Spinski (1940–2013)

Victor Spinski is well known for his sculptural still life compositions of common everyday objects, that represent everyday American life and his blue collar upbringing. After escaping Nazi occupied Poland with his parents, his family moved to the United States where he would later serve in the Vietnam War. He received a MFA in ceramics from Indiana University and became a significant figure in the avant-garde ceramics movement of the 1960s and 1970s. His work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Museum of Arts and Design, and others.

Victor’s acute wit was often animated through the juxtaposition of contradictory elements and fabrication that was so highly skilled as to confound our powers of perception.
