Among his many achievements, Robert Smit was awarded the German Association of Goldsmiths' Art Golden Ring of Honor in 2014. This award cements his place alongside other distinguished jewelry designers such as Tone Vigeland, Otto Künzli, and Yasuki Hiramatsu. Yet, in truth, Smit–a talented draughtsman, painter, and photographer–is best thought of as an artist.
