Alex Šepkus, who has been described as an “intellectual eccentric” by fellow jeweler, Stephen Webster has a distinctive and complex style. Born in Lithuania, Špekus originally studied industrial design and planned to follow his father by becoming an architect. He soon found that it was stifling his creative endeavors. He eventually found his way goldsmithing and felt he could finally express himself through elaborately designed gold, accented by sparking gems and diamonds.
I have no technical secrets. The main trick is in the very intricate manual work that goes into the process. I can explain the process to everybody. But at the same time, I don't think that I have ever seen a copy of my work somewhere. It is just so labor intensive.
