Céline Chalem was born in Egypt in 1913 but studied sculpture at Ossip Zadkine’s studio in Paris. Prominently known as a sculptor, Chalem dabbled in jewelry construction as well. His Egyptian heritage is a consistent influence in his work; the powerful pyramidal structures of his home country are often represented in his pieces.
