This work was likely made for the 1904 St. Louis Exposition, the metal base designed and executed by R. Ito, one of two Japanese craftsmen hired by the company.
Vase features two handles and metal mount of Art Nouveau design. Incised signature and date to underside ‘AA Van Briggle 1904’ with incised Japanese artist's cipher.
