After starting a career as a painter, Tod Pardon apprenticed with his father Earl, a famed jewelry artist. He assisted with jewelry creations from 1986 to 1991. Tod learned from his father, how to master gold and metalsmithing techniques and work with enamel and glass. After this initial collaboration, he developed his style and explored the use of exotic materials such as wood, natural pigments, simulated ivory, and bone. Pardon is best known for his colorful and abstract figurative forms inspired by the tribal art of Southeast Asia and Africa, which testify to his lifelong commitment to jewelry as a form of wearable art.
