Born in 1919, Antonio Pineda is considered to be one of the greatest Mexican Renaissance silversmiths. He studied painting at the Open Air School of Taxco under Tamachi Kitagawa and sculpture under Matin Pineda. At 14, his life took a firm direction when he apprenticed at the Taller de Las Delicias of William Spratling to develop silversmithing skills. After eight enriching years studying there, Pineda opened his own workshop in 1941. Pineda had a long and prosperous career, working well into the 1980s. He is celebrated for his commitment to sculptural and modernist designs.
