Lot is comprised of The Essay on Self-Reliance and The Essay on Friendship. Bindings designed and executed by Louis Kinder. The Essay on Self-Reliance features a frontispiece portrait of Ralph Waldo Emerson by Otto Schneider, hand-illuminations by Elise Whitney, and a dedication page to Brother R.W. Corwin of Pueblo Lodge. The Essays on Friendship features a vine-motif title page by Samuel Warner and watercolor hand-illuminations. Signed and numbered to each limitation page ‘82 Elbert Hubbard illumined by Elise Whitney’ and ‘1 Elbert Hubbard’. These works are numbers 82 and 1 from the editions of 100 and 25 printed by The Roycroft Shop, East Aurora, New York.
